Mastermind Counseling is dedicated to helping you achieve your best. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, individualized counseling, and collaborative work with parents, coaches and teachers, Melanie helps to remove the layers of fear, anxiety and self-doubt that get in the way of success. Athletes, among other high performers are one of the most motivated and dedicated groups of people but without the mastery of their mind they can only go so far. Mastermind Counseling was started because Melanie understands the importance of mental training and the importance of collaborating with a professional and former athlete who can understand the fears, blocks, insecurities and overall lifestyle of a competitive performer. No matter if you are an athlete, performer or someone motivated to live a happy, fulfilling and successful life, if you do not have the capacity to control your mind, you will never reach your fullest potential.
As a former Division 1 college athlete and coach, Melanie has been able to join her two passions of Cognitive Therapy and EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with optimal performance enhancement. She is dedicated to working with clients who are motivated to reach their fullest potential. Sports are a great example of the need for a balance between mental focus, physical endurance and using emotions to regulate between the two. EMDR utilizes the athlete’s brain to address and correct problematic thinking. When an athlete experiences what is perceived as an “athletic trauma,” the memory can cause a mental block, replicating itself when similar situations present. This becomes a stored memory, causing you to feel “stuck” and prevents you from acting and performing in ways that are healthy and productive.
“The most important attribute a player must have is mental toughness.” ~ Mia Hamm
